Community Empowerment Participation Requests

New rights have come into effect in Scotland (from April 1, 2017) which will enable communities to identify local needs and issues and request action to be taken on them by public sector authorities and Health Boards.

These participation requests provides a process for communities to request to work alongside public sector bodies to improve outcomes, and sets out duties on how public service authorities deal with such requests. They provide an opportunity for communities to set the agenda around how to tackle the needs or issues they have identified, and to become involved in helping to achieve the changes or improvements they are looking for.

The new rights are part of the Community Empowerment (Scotland) Act 2015. CLAS Scotland has created a briefing note to give more information and details on how community growing groups can use and benefit from participation requests.
